
Andy Lawson, owner of the Queanbeyan Kart Centre, has Webber received an old battered go-kart from his father in 1990 and raced it once a month at the Canberra Go-Kart Club and at meetings in and around Canberra. He developed himself at a local indoor go-kart center near his home. Around age 12 or 13, he turned to karting, buying a go-kart from a school friend’s father. Weber was not encouraged to take motorcycling seriously by his father, as he sponsored some local children who had been injured in motorcycle accidents.

Weber began riding motorbikes on weekends on his maternal grandfather’s 2,500-acre (1,000 ha) farm around the age of four or five. He lives in the small Buckinghamshire village of Aston Clinton with his wife, Ann Neill, and is stepfather to his son from a previous relationship.

Weber also worked as an apprentice plumber and woodcutter. At the age of 13, he was a ball boy for the rugby league team Canberra Raiders for a year and spent his post-school years earning money by delivering pizzas in the Canberra and Queanbeyan areas. Weber represented KHS in athletics and rugby league and did Australian rules football, cricket and swimming after his mother encouraged him to get involved in as many sports as possible.
